No Official List of Cancelled Funds and Reasons Yet

March 20, 2025 - As graduates of Columbia Journalism School, we have reached out to various stakeholders to gather more information about the cancelled grants and contracts. Our primary concern is obtaining a comprehensive list of these cancellations. However, federal agencies have not responded to our inquiries, and the university has also failed to provide a list and did not explain why. Instead, they have maintained a strategic line of communication, acknowledging the flaws in their efforts while assuring us that they are taking measures to improve the situation while adhering to their founding principles.

FROM The Columbia University Alumni Relations & Development Team

Dear Philippe,

Thank you for reaching out. We understand your concerns and appreciate your continued engagement with the University.

As Interim President Katrina Armstrong mentioned in her recent message to the Columbia community, we are taking a methodical and thoughtful approach to addressing the multitude of challenges ahead of us. While we are engaged with several federal agencies and are doing all we can to be responsive and to take corrective action, under the law, to restore funding, we are also deeply committed to freedom of speech as a fundamental value. We believe that vigorous and open debate, consistent with our rules and in an environment free from discrimination, is central to achieving our academic mission. You can also find additional information on our recent statements and announcements page here.

We hope this offers additional insight and context and helps facilitate understanding of the measures Columbia is taking to address the changing federal policy environment. Your insight is integral as we move forward during these challenging times, and we value your dedication to the well-being of the campus community.
